In addition to its popular Ukulele Sundays kanikapila (Hawaiian-style jam session), Hulaville Island Café and Company Store now hosts Hulaville Open Mic Night, every Thursday from 6 PM until 8 PM. Jean Navarra, Hulaville owner and former Oahu resident, invites all ukulele, guitar, keyboard, and other musicians, along with singers and hula dancers, to step up to the microphone or take to the dance floor to strut their stuff as a solo, duet, or small group. Here’s the chance to showcase your talents for an appreciative audience. Musicians: An amp and microphone are provided – or bring your own if you prefer. Singers: Can’t play an instrument? No problem, Jean has song books - or bring your own music. Someone will be glad to accompany you. Hula Dancers: Digital (CD, mp3, iPod, etc.) hook-ups are available if you prefer to dance to your own recorded music – or dance along with the live music as it is played. Authentic Hawaiian food along with Jean’s own culinary creations plus tasteful tiki décor in the tradition of the Enchanted Tiki Room provide the perfect setting for island-style tunes - but all types of music are welcomed. Stop-by to play, sing, hula, or just kick back in a tropical setting to relax, listen, and watch. Hulaville Open Mic Night happens every Thursday.

Come join our weekly kanikapila!

Our aim is to provide an opportunity for people from different playing backgrounds, different levels of ability, and different ukulele clubs - or no playing background at all, no great musical ability, and no club or group affiliation - to come together in a friendly, no-pressure setting to talk-story, share songs and playing tips, and meet new friends.
Pat Enos, a well-known ukulele performer and teacher, will be here most weeks to provide tips and tricks. If you have a song you'd like to teach us or lead us all in, we'd love to learn it. Song books are available at our kanikapila if you need them - or bring your own music - or no music. Actually, that's the most fun of all - playing and singing songs by heart or following along on new songs by watching and listening.

If you're a beginner - or if you don't even own an ukulele yet - you're more than welcome. This is a great place to learn. We usually have some spare ukuleles around so that you can borrow one for the evening and also a complimentary little beginner's learning packet which you can take home with you. Ukulele players are a generous bunch and we love to welcome and teach newcomers.

Hula dancers - and those who would like to learn to do a step or two are also invited! We don't do formal hula instruction here but there is always someone at our meet-ups who would be happy to share some tips to get you started.

We meet every Sunday, from 5 PM to 7 PM. Directions are on our website.
